Beijing Normal University (BNU), established in 1902 is a key university under the administration of the Ministry of Education and a renowned institution of higher education known for teacher education, education science and basic learning in both the arts and the sciences. With a history of over a hundred years, BNU has created rich cultural heritage, outstanding academic achievements and abundant educational resources. Adhering to a fine tradition of “Patriotism, Progress, Honesty, Sincerity, Truth-Seeking, Innovation and being a paragon of virtue and learning”and embodying the university motto spirit of “Learn, so as to instruct others; Act, to serve as example to all”, for over a century BNU has lived by the philosophy of “Pursuing knowledge, Cultivating personality, and Helping the whole world”. BNU comprises a comprehensive discipline structure with 12 disciplinary categories, excluding military science, which has put the university at the forefront of the nation’s advanced teaching institutions. According to the 2016 assessment results (the 4th time) for first-level disciplines issued by the Academic Degree Center of the Ministry of Education, 6 first-level disciplines \u2013 namely, Education, Psychology, Chinese Linguistics and Literature, Chinese History, Theatre, Film and Television, Geography and Ecology \u2013 achieved A+ level, ranking 6 nationally; 2 first-level disciplines achieved A level; and 7 first-level disciplines achieved A- level. In the 2019 QS World University Rankings, BNU ranks 277, among top 10 universities in mainland China. In 2017, BNU entered the national “world-class university” construction category A list, and 11 disciplines entered the national “world-class discipline” construction list.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) is a significant constituent of BNU’s construction of “a Comprehensive and Research-based World-class University with a leading teacher education”. Based on the principle of “One System with Two Campuses” and “High standard, New mechanism and Internationalization”, BNU Zhuhai will develop into a South China campus aligned with BNU standards with its own focus and complementary advantages. Beijing Campus will focus on the basic and applied disciplines, while Zhuhai Campus will make the most of its unique advantages and innovative atmosphere of connecting with Hong Kong and Macau and strives to becomea national center for preparing excellent teachers, especially in huge-demand disciplines. By doing so, BNU Zhuhai will become a high-end research center for education as well as a talent training base and an emerging discipline and interdisciplinary cultivation base for the “Belt and Road Initiative” serving for the return of Hong Kong and Macao people. In August, 2017, Guangdong Provincial and Zhuhai Municipal governments, and BNU signed a tripartite agreement to promote the construction of BNU Zhuhai with joint efforts. In April, 2019, the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of BNU Zhuhai.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n

BNU Zhuhai has established the Institute of Advanced Studies in Natural Sciences, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, the Belt and Road School and College of Education for the Future, covering 16 disciplines among the BNU “double-first class” disciplines and the A-level disciplines in the 2016 assessment results (the 4th time).Theestablishmentof teaching and research institutions such as the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Arts and Design is in process.
